*CEH listed the maker as "Tobin" in his inventory, but can find no markings on the instrument that would indicate this. There is "378" stamped on the base that might be the serial number. Have not found a reference to Tobin as an instrument maker in France. Looks similar to Morin transits - see below.

Brass theodolite, signed "H.Morin, 11 rue Dulong à Paris".

Adjustable telescope for vertical and horizontal. Optical axis with pinion gears and knob. Elevation tangent scale and azimuth scale with silver limbe. Spirit/bubble level on the plate. Secondary, adjustment telescope with magnetic needle, under the plate. Tripod base with three leveling screws.
