In early August, 1931 Papa, Mama, Cecil and Gladys Hanson left Los Angeles on a car trip that lasted 30 days and covered 4,800 miles. They drove a Model T Ford and it is believed they camped along the way in many places, but no campsite pictures were taken. Several National Parks were visited as well as the home in Lynden, Washington before returning to Los Angeles. The route was drawn on a map of the Western US by Cecil shown at the bottom of this page. Itinerary with dates:

  • Salt Lake City - Postcard dated 8/17/31
  • Yellowstone National Park - Permit issued 8/23/31
  • Glacier National Park - Permit issued 8/25/31
  • Lynden/Bellingham
  • Mount Rainer - Permit issued 9/5/31
  • San Francisco/San Jose/Monterrey
  • Return to Los Angeles - Approx. 9/12/31

Post card from Cecil to Daisy: "Traveling fine. 825 miles, no flats Zion Park was a great side trip. Staying here till Tues am. Driving to Yellowstone, a day trip to west entrance, via Idaho Falls. Gladys, Papa and Mama. Two on the right are probably part of the Jacobson family who lived next door. Mama's brother, Nels Jacobson (died 1927), and his family had a dairy business.

Probably neighbors on Benson St. From left John Booman (72), Almeda Booman (29), Marie Booman (64), Papa(65), Mama(63), Gladys(20), Johanna Jacobson (71) and Cecil (25).

Home in Bellingham, Washington (1944 Grants St) where Mama, Papa, Viola and Daisy (born in Bellingham) lived from 1902-1903 before moving to Lynden. Looks like Papa knocking at the front door.
