While training for the Houston-Austin MS 150 ride in early 2006, Dave Carlson of Team BP signed up for a bike trip in June offered by Sockeye Cycle in Alaska along the "Golden Circle" and was soon joined by fellow teammates, Thor Hanson and Kevin O'Flaherty. The ride started in Haines, AK (about 60 miles north of Juneau) and ended in Skagway, AK along the historic Dalton Trail and White Pass gold rush routes to the Klondike. While the two towns are only 15 miles apart by water, the paved road travels about 370 miles through some of the most breathtaking scenery in Alaska. |
